What fruit will we produce?

imageA conker caught my eye when I was walking to my office this week. Just out of its shell, dropped from the tree and released into the world. A bright shiny new shell glistening in the sun.  This one was almost heart shaped too. But then it occurred to me that its destiny was rather different. The shine would go, the shell would crack revealing the core, it would get wet and then the shoot of growth would come.

As Christians, we are not called to stay in our shiny but hard shells. We are supposed to get a bit cracked, a bit wet, to reveal our hearts and lead to growth. What fruit are we designed to produce?

"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." (Galatians 5), "so that you may lead lives worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, as you bear fruit in every good work and as you grow in the knowledge of God." (Colossians 1).

This is Harvest season. We thank God, rightly, for the crops that give us our food. What fruit will we bear in our lives to feed others?
